VISIONS 2011: California on the Cutting Edge - A Recap
Visions 2011: California on the Cutting Edge was a Garden Club of America Major Flower Show held on May 13 and 14, 2011. This sixth “Visions” show was presented by 5 Bay Area Clubs: Carmel, Hillsborough, Orinda, Piedmont, and Woodside-Atherton and was held for the first time in Carmel, California
The highly competitive show brought 92 judges from around the country to our lovely Carmel community. They evaluated over 300 exhibits in Flower Arrangement, Horticulture and Photography.
Conservation and a “go green” message was a major focus throughout the show as well as innovative trends serving as inspiration for the exhibitors, guests and visitors. A beautiful educational display featured the Carmel Watershed with all plants in the exhibit propagated by MEearth students. Another Conservation Exhibit focused on the Pacific Garbage Patch which demonstrated the power and significance each of us play by doing our part to keep trash, especially plastic, out of our ocean.
.
The current trend in Flower Arrangement is distinctly sculptural, as evidenced by some of the entries.

The beautifully groomed Horticulture exhibits emphasized several important issues facing California today by featuring drought resistant and water efficient plants.

The Photography division encompassed many of California’s current issues, especially alternative energy, water supply, and native plants, and also highlighting California’s extraordinary scenery.

We are looking to the future and hopeful that Visions will be back in 3 -4 years. Stay tuned!
